The Challenge
An over-sized wood deck needed major repairs and seemed visually and physically disjointed from the backyard of this Roswell home. The homeowners had recently purchased the property and wanted better access to the backyard to accommodate their love of gardening. They were open to design ideas with the caveat that the resulting space had to be very low maintenance and energy efficient.
The Solution
Our design involved complete removal of the old deck, the addition of a sunroom overlooking the yard, and the installation of a stone patio and shade arbor. The sunroom is a quiet retreat bathed in brilliant sunshine, with rustic wood beams and a wood stove for heating. Spray foam insulation, triple insulated windows, rain barrels and a separate cooling system round out the “green” project requirements. And by opting for a bluestone patio and fiberglass arbor, the homeowners are enjoying outdoor features that are maintenance-free.
