New Porch and Family Room Addition

The Challenge

The home sits on a four-acre horse farm in Milton, GA. Before kids, the house was perfect. But with two growing teenagers, the house is now bursting at the seams and needs additional space for everyone to enjoy. For some reason, the teens and their friends want a space of their own, away from the adults; go figure. The existing deck is old and ready for replacement. Situated on a rural property, a place to enjoy the beautiful outdoors was high on their priority list.

The Solution

A new great room, with soaring vaulted ceilings and expansive windows is proposed to open up to the backyard and create a wonderful place for entertaining. The new deck and screened porch are a perfect addition to create outdoor living spaces. We may even consider an outdoor fireplace if the budget allows. While building a second-floor addition, it seemed to make sense to enclose the space below the addition for additional storage or living space. The massing of the addition is visually anchored to the house and makes it seem like an integral element rather than an afterthought. There are many other considerations during the design process, all of which are refined with close collaboration between our designers and our clients.
