Sandy Springs Screened Porch Addition
Rustic Jewel
Location: Sandy Springs
The Challenge
The challenge given to our team on this project included a desire by the homeowners to create an outdoor living space that had a “Colorado” flavor, a mountain retreat of sorts. They had built a large patio several years prior, but soon realized that it was not being used as much as they had imagined. With the complex roof configuration at the patio location, they knew they needed a professional to help solve the puzzle of designing and building a covered porch in this location.
The Solution
The solution became a heavy timber-framed cedar structure to create the feeling of a rustic mountain retreat. Interior lighting was critical to the design to highlight the beauty of the natural wood and accentuate the height of the ceiling. The structure itself raised above the existing roof creating a tall ceiling height and high screen windows. The brick fireplace and wood mantle add that little extra ambiance to the sophisticated rustic theme. Lastly, the placement of the structure is carefully nestled into the corner of the house and has become like a little jewel that sparkles in the evening light.
