The Ultimate Lower-Level Retreat
Location: Buckhead
The Challenge
A dated and compartmentalized basement was ready to be transformed into a highly functional extension of the home. The existing spaces included outdated finishes, limited lighting, inefficient circulation, and mechanical systems that no longer supported the homeowners’ vision. Walls, ceilings, flooring, and stair structures needed to be reconfigured, while plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems required extensive updates to accommodate new living spaces. The homeowners envisioned a sophisticated, multi-purpose lower level featuring entertainment areas, a bar and scullery, multiple bathrooms, a craft room, gym, game room, wine room, and improved stair and hallway connections, all while maintaining architectural continuity with the rest of the home.
The Solution
The entire basement was carefully redesigned and reconstructed to create a cohesive and highly functional living environment. Existing flooring, walls, ceilings, and structural elements were removed and rebuilt to allow for new layouts, upgraded systems, and improved circulation throughout the level. New plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems were installed to support the expanded spaces, including two powder baths, a craft bath, a scullery, and a fully equipped bar. Custom cabinetry, built-ins, and architectural details were integrated throughout, while new lighting, smart controls, and updated stair elements enhanced both convenience and ambiance. Finishes such as LVP flooring, millwork, wallpaper-ready surfaces, and decorative lighting were incorporated to elevate the design and ensure the basement felt like a natural extension of the home above.
